Study found: LED lighting can stimulatehair and skin regeneration

US media reported that Revian, a North Carolina-based developer of phototherapy equipment, announced that its skin and hair regeneration technology has received a basic patent.

The company is developing a wearable hat controlled by a mobile app. The hat illuminates the scalp with dual-wavelength LED lights. The patient wears it for a few minutes a day. It is said to accelerate the healing of the scalp and renew the cells related to hair growth and reinforcement.

This patent relates to the phototherapy regulation of nitric oxide in mammalian tissues. It uses the first wavelength to stimulate the enzymatic production of nitric oxide, and the second wavelength to stimulate the release of the same compound from the tissue’s endogenous reserves.

Revian Executive Chairman Nathan Stasko said: “This is a pioneering method of light therapy”, “By stimulating the internal mechanisms of the body to produce and release nitric oxide, we can achieve the therapeutic benefits of molecules in the human body without having to face drug development Challenges.”

The product is said to be the first to combine LED technology with the biomedical role of nitric oxide. The device can provide 620 and 660 nanometers of illumination and is designed to prevent hair loss and stimulate new hair growth, thereby providing treatment for men and women with androgenic alopecia.

According to Revian’s research, an original clinical trial of 36 selected subjects showed that the product averaged 21.3 more hair per square centimeter compared to people wearing similar hats but not undergoing phototherapy. Another large clinical trial for 161 participants has also been launched and ended in 2019, the results have not yet been announced.
