The high inrush current of LED lamps has become a concern in the lighting industry. Inrush current refers to the input current that enters LED lamps in a very short period of time. The LED power supply in the lamp during the power-up phase can be regarded as a capacitive device.


If multiple LED lamps are connected at the same time, the maximum inrush current and its duration may trigger the protection of a miniature circuit breaker or commonly known as an air circuit breaker. For industrial inductive appliances or load applications, it is generally recommended to use C or D type circuit breakers, which can withstand larger surge values.


Through discussion, we know that the best way to reduce the inrush current is to reduce the peak current (Ipeak), or reduce the duration of the pulse. The solution of U-Power is to reduce Ipeak to a very low level and increase the duration, so that you do n’t need to refer to the value of K factor to calculate the number of corresponding circuit breakers.


When the duration of the inrush current is greater than a certain value, such as 10ms / S201M, there is no need to calculate how many drives can be connected in parallel by the K factor. At this time, it is sufficient to refer to the trip curve, and this means that more parallel can be connected in parallel drive.


For example, if we use the CLD circuit breaker C16 and the ULD power supply BLD series 400W drive, the input current is 2A at 220Vac input, then the maximum number should be 16x5x0.7 / 2 = 28, multiplied by 0.7 here In order to leave a certain margin, this number is almost ten times that of the standard drive.


At present, for driving power with a power lower than 200W, an external surge suppressor solution can also be used.
